Joel has been a teacher in the York Region District School Board (a suburb of Toronto) for 35 years! When the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus came out in 1995 I thought this IS JOEL – – a teacher who can change the world by his teachings to children. He is known for being the teacher you always remember and never forget (so illustrated by kids now in their 30’s and 40’s with children of their own coming back to visit saying for example they now work in the Pentagon in Washington D.C. (from Toronto) because Mr. Cooper taught them the meaning of history and the benefits of watching the news each night! He changes lives and enriches his student’s mind with education and life lessons. He is WORTHY of such nomination!!”
