Corcoran High School- Syracuse City School District
Syracuse, NY
My mother is the kind of teacher you want your kids to have. She inspires her students to go out and change the world. She has taught at the same inner city high school for over 20 years. Ever since she began teaching her students have been her priority. She is always one of the first teachers in the building and one of the last to leave. She helps with all of the drama productions and runs review classes after school and on weekends. In October 2018 my mom was diagnosed with 2 kinds of cancer and had to undergo surgery. When asked if she would have enough time off her reply was that she’s amassed HUNDREDS of days! Being there for her students is so important to her that she never takes time off! Even now while undergoing a rigorous chemo schedule she is still working still staying after school and still inspiring her students to do good in the world. My mom doesn’t just lecture the students she lives what she teaches. Whether that is teaching homeless teen moms in shelters or taking students to New Orleans to help rebuild after hurricane Katrina she shows her students that you can make a difference in the world especially if you know your history!
